Rich machine-readable endpoints now require API-key access. Public discovery should start with the canonical guides and the API access page for key issuance and usage details.
Peak metadata
Authenticated NH48 Peak Summary API
The protected /api/peaks.json endpoint exposes canonical NH48 peak-guide summary fields for crawlers, agents, and lightweight integrations with API-key access.
- Canonical peak slug, name, range, coordinates, difficulty, and trail type
- Typical completion time, normalized standard routes, and parking summary
- Canonical peak URL, primary image URL, and sameAs authority links where available
- Top-level dataset metadata including publisher, build generation date, homepage, and usage guidance
Trail network
White Mountain Trails Dataset
A fully attributed trail network for the White Mountain National Forest, including distances, elevation profiles, surfaces, permitted uses, and connecting routes.
- Segment-level GeoJSON with mileages and elevation gain/loss
- Trail classifications (blazed vs unblazed, maintained vs abandoned)
- Connections to trailheads and other trail systems
- Attribution of difficulty, scenic value, and seasonality
Alpine flora
Howker Ridge Plant Catalog Dataset
Species observations and notes from the Howker Ridge Trail, including habitats, seasonal tags, and photo references for alpine and subalpine plants.

Long-distance routes
Long Trails Dataset
The map remains public. Bulk catalogs and individual trail packs for major long-distance routes are available through the authenticated PeakList Pro API.
- GeoJSON-like trail geometries suitable for maps and GIS workflows
- Segment metadata including names, ordering, and distance summaries
- Authenticated trail packs for each marquee route plus a sanitized catalog
Recreation.gov snapshot
Camp Sites & More RIDB Snapshot
An authenticated same-origin Worker snapshot of RIDB/Recreation.gov records near the White Mountains, covering federal recreation areas, facilities, campground campsites, events, tours, and permit entrances.
- Normalized API records for the WMNF-centered planning region
- Detail routes for directions, seasons, amenities, media, and official links when RIDB provides them
- Daily cached refreshes with stale fallback when the upstream API is unavailable
