Overview
A fragrant, narrow-crowned evergreen with flat needles and resin blisters on the bark. In WMNF it is a signature spruce - fir component, especially at higher elevations and in colder valleys.
Ecology
Provides dense winter cover for wildlife and nesting habitat for birds; contributes needles and woody debris that shape acidic, mossy forest floors typical of spruce - fir systems.
